Located at Minety in Wiltshire on prime stock rearing land, Sambourne Stud covers approximately 40 acres of the finest English pasture with its paddocks and surrounding farms afforded natural shelter by ancient hedgerows and magnificent oak trees.
The home to Sambourne Kratos our resident Tobanio Skewbald Normandy Cob x Hanoverian stallion, as well as the majority of the operation’s band of broodmares and young stock, Sambourne Stud has established a reputation as an outstanding stallion station, rehabilitation centre and stud.
Heather Large
Heather Large is well known in the area, with over 35 years' experience with horses, from breeding to competing. Heather held an amateur racing licence for a season, point to pointing for local trainers and has extensive experience as a work rider with local Race Horse Trainers.
Heather has enjoyed many years as a successful breeder and has a re-known reputation for giving ex racing mares a second lease of life the majority of which form the Stud’s foundation residential broodmare operation. Heather has taken on many mares who have either suffered a career ending injury, not fast enough or simply fallen out of love with the “game” and their owners have wanted them to have a second career chance. If you feel you have a broodmare suitable to be part of the resident broodmare team do contact Heather. As one of the only coloured breeders in the area, Heather’s stallion Sambourne Jim Bob has produced some excellent offspring and the Stud now has his son as the resident stallion - Sambourne Kratos following Jim Bob's death in January 2020. See Stallion page for more information.
Heather is extremely approachable and always willing to help with any queries or problems.
